Use TOTP import when moving authenticator entries into GitVault. Always verify a new code against the service before deleting the old authenticator entry.

Accepted inputs

  • Manual secret A base32 TOTP secret copied from the service.
  • otpauth link A link beginning with otpauth://totp/.
  • QR code Supported where the platform and permissions expose camera scanning.

Import from a copied secret

  1. 1
Open the service's 2FA setup page.

Choose the option that shows the manual setup key.

  2. 2
    Copy the secret.

Do not include spaces unless the app specifically accepts them.

  3. 3
    Open GitVault 2FA Codes.

Create a new code and paste the secret.

  4. 4
    Fill issuer and account.

Use the service name as issuer and your username or email as account.

Import from an otpauth link

Paste the full otpauth link into the TOTP field. GitVault reads the issuer, account, and secret when the link contains them.

Import from QR

  1. 1
Open scan from the 2FA flow.

Grant camera permission if the platform asks.

  2. 2
    Scan the QR code.

Hold the code steady and keep the screen bright.

  3. 3
    Review imported fields.

Check issuer and account before saving.

Verify imported codes

Before deleting the old authenticator entry, use a GitVault-generated code to complete a real login or a service verification step.
